Last weekend was a disappointing one with Acey Milan being backed of the boards, but running poorly and only best bet selection Sir Valentine placing, lets hope for better this weekend!
The weather this week has been shocking and writing my tips up has been harder than usual trying to guess what meeting will be on and where any horses will run, let’s hope the weather forecasters are wrong and all the racing goes ahead tomorrow.
I’m starting my preview at Haydock, where my best of the day runs in the 3-15.
At around the forecast odds of 5/1, I really like the looks of LORD DU MESNIL.
He looks a very progressive animal that jumps economically, is enjoying the heavy going and step up in trip, he’s two from two at Haydock (which is a big plus).
The manner of his last time out win really impressed me, three in with a serious chance turning into the home straight, one good jump three out he put the race to bed in a matter of strides.
It was very difficult leaving Vintage Clouds out of my calculations with his excellent course form, but the career high mark puts me off so I’m suggesting a small each way saver on one who finished behind him last time GERONIMO at around 10-1.
Geronimo may be nine, but has only raced eleven times, seven over fences and barring one blip (Scottish Grand National) has progressed run on run, he has a handy twelve pound weight pull with Vintage Clouds too.
Over to Ascot and the 2-25 at odds of 4-1 I’m pretty keen on VALTOUR in this one, he’s two from two at Ascot and ran really well last time over a trip that stretched him at Taunton behind the grinder Yala Enki (runs 3-15 Haydock) he travelled well there, but got outstayed.
His run over course/distance last year makes him the bet though, he bolted up by eight lengths, (could have been fifteen) and only runs here of a two pound higher mark.
My last bets are in the 3-00 Ascot. THE CON MAN at around 5-1 has travelled like a class horse since handicapping and I still think he is in front of his current mark.
My funny one in the race at around 16-1 is DISTINGO he just missed out on a run in last week’s Betfair hurdle, he was on my radar for that and in better races recently he’s been travelling well deep in to those and only weakening late on.
Be lucky this weekend and gamble responsibly!
