Keep it sempo, back santini in the gold cup!

Cheltenham Racecourse

A great day yesterday with three winners and two seconds, shame The Storyteller couldn’t hang on, let’s aim for more of the same today.

My first bets are in the 1-30 the JCB Triumph hurdle. After reviewing the Juvenile handicap hurdle on Wednesday, I noted seven of the first nine home had been campaigned in Ireland, yet English trained horses are the first three in the betting.

I think there’s value to swim against the tide, I’ve been keen on ASPIRE TOWER to win this ante-post anyway, he’s available at around 15-2.

His first two wins in Ireland were impressive especially the second run where several horses had a good go at him, but he just kept on finding relentlessly. He’s looked a strong stayer in his runs, providing the last time out fall hasn’t left a mark he’s a good bet to get back in the winning habit.

I’m going to suggest savers on buddies A WAVE OF THE SEA and CERBURUS  (AWOTS leads the head-to-head 2-1) at odds of 11-1 and 20-1 respectively.

There’s very little between them on all three of their runs, I do love experience in these types of races and these two have jumped the most with the exception of Sir Psycho. Aramax’s win on Wednesday franks their form,  I think they will run their race as they are solid consistent yardsticks.

I am going to suggest a bet on 100-1 shot NEVER DO NOTHING too!

These juvenile races can throw up odd results, I accept you need some imagination in backing him, but he did beat Aspire Tower in a flat race at Ascot (he’s officially the best flat horse in the line up). He won impressively from two next time out winners at Musselburgh, so much so he started only 8-1 in the race at Leopardstown that AWOTS won, and what’s more he cost 135’000 guineas at the sales in October, so if you forgive him is last time out run he could be a fly in the ointment here.

My next bets are running in the 2-10 the County Hurdle.

Firstly I really like bridle monster BUILDMEUPBUTTERCUP at around 16-1, she’s threatened so many times to win a big pot and has been backed to do so too.

She was favourite for a very valuable handicap at Leopardstown and did her usual of jumping poorly and finding nil of the bridle. If they go hard here and she somehow jumps just a little better she will give you a great run for your money, but hide behind the sofa up the run in if she’s coming there to win.

My next bet is the novice EMBITTERED, 16-1 looks a great price for him too.

His run when beaten around ten lengths by rising star Envoi Allen is fantastic form, in second that day was Abacadabras and third was Champion Hurdle third Darver Star!

My final bet in the race is ARAMON at around 8-1. His run in last years Supreme is excellent form, also last time out he was only beaten eight and a half lengths in the Irish Champion Hurdle, that form was well advertised earlier this week.

My next bet is in the 2-50, I like SEMPO here at around 12-1.

I backed him ante-post for the Coral Cup but connections have decided to go for this Grade one instead. His run in last years Champion bumper is very good with the excellent runs this week of Envoi Allen/Abacadabras, in third that day was favourite Thyme Hill, Sempo hasn’t much ground to find and travelled around the unflavoured far side that day too. He was extremely eye-catching when finishing second to Cobbler’s Way at Leopardstown. He would of won that race in a few more strides, in behind those two that day was The Big Getaway who ran a great race here on Wednesday, this step up in trip is exactly what I think he needs and he looks a good bet in this.

I suggest a small saver on RAMSES DE TEILLEE at around 12-1, he fits the profile of previous winners of this race being a very experienced campaigner. He has course form, is consistent, a battler and looks guaranteed to run his race.

My final bets are in the Gold Cup, the 3-30 and main race on the final day.

Firstly I like SANTINI at 5-1, he’s now gone to the price I want to back him at.

His run in last years RSA looks the standout piece of form, he’s had just the two runs and has had no setbacks this year. His win from Bristol De Mai in January is excellent too, they both pulled nearly thirty lengths clear of good handicappers in Top Ville Ben and De Rasher Counter. I suggest a couple as savers, firstly PRESENTING PERCY at around 12-1,he was favourite for this race last year, has made small improvements on each run and most importantly has Davy Russell on his back!

Lastly, and I hate myself for this I’m putting up KEMBOY at 10-1. I hate the way he jumps, (although we’ve seen a few bad jumpers run well this week!) but now he’s a very good price, has beaten favourite Al Boum Photo and hasn’t much to find with Delta Work or Presenting Percy.

Be lucky and please gamble responsibly!
