Hang on a min, concertista the besta bet today!

stew on saturday

At last we had a winner, now the floodgates are going to open and what a day’s racing we have to look forward to!

Let’s start the tipping in the 2-10, I like the favourite here as it looks like it’s been laid out for this THE STORYTELLER at around 5-1.

The horse has previous with being laid out for handicap here when winning the Brown Advisory Plate here two years ago of a handicap mark of 147, only two pounds higher today. He was extremely eye-catching under lets say tender handling last time at Leopardstown to get qualified for this race. The run before I really like at Clonmel where he beat two next time out winners, he’s Grade one placed over fences and looks to be the one here.

I do want a saver on one I think’s well handicapped this side of the Irish Sea, that’s KILBRICKEN STORM at around 20-1. He wasn’t suited by the slow tactical pace of it’s last run at Haydock, but look at it’s run here behind Skandiburg, he travelled like the winner and now running off a three pound lower mark. It was only two years ago he was winning the Albert Bartlett with horses like Santini/Paisley Park behind him, 20-1 is a fantastic price.

On to the next, the race of the day The Ryanair Chase!

I know I’m in the minority here, (that’s my want) but at the prices I have to back MIN at around 5-2.

I accept he’s a better horse at Aintree/Punchestown, but his Cheltenham runs aren’t too shabby with the exception of when Ruby Walsh gave him a shocker last year. Only Altior has beaten him here, he’s four from five at this distance (his optimum) I think he’s bang solid and with a decent round of jumping he’s a good bet.

I will leave the next race alone, maybe Ronald Pump/Tobefair without the favourite.

On to the 4-15 the odds have shrunk now on SIMPLY THE BETTS at around 10-3, but I do want him onside as his run here earlier this year has obviously been well advertised through the runs of Imperial Aura and On The Slopes.

However my main bet here is DEYRANN DE CARJAC at around 11-1, his novice chase win earlier this year at Huntingdon over Pym was impressive to my eye, since then I was wanting to back him for a Cheltenham handicap (looks to of been campaigned as that’s the main aim) and I’m really pleased he’s entered here. His run at Newbury behind Champ/Black Op was particularly impressive where he actually travelled the best horse in the race, before weakening on the run in (my only concern here), Champs bulldozing win yesterday only franks that form more.

Moving on to the 4-50 and who would of thought this race last year would have provided so many form pointers to this year’s festival?

(Epatente Champion Hurdle winner, Black Tears Coral Cup second and Elfile Mares Hurdle third).

With that form looking so red hot I have to be with last years unlucky second CONCERTISTA at around 9-2. Concertista ran a race full of promise at Leopardstown behind Black Tears and this looks like it’s been the main aim for her all season. I also really like COLREEVY at around 5-1, she was good enough to beat Supreme second Abacadabras in a Grade 1 bumper at Punchestown in May last year!

I like the fact she stays well, might be useful if they go hard up front as it’s such a big field, she ties in with current favourite Minella Melody.

MOUNT IDA also has form that ties in with Minella Melody and has a five-pound pull in the weights, so 25-1 seems more than fair!

Finally we have the Kim Muir at 5-30, this is a race that can often throw up big price placers so I’m having a go today!

First one is my main selection for the race KILFILUM CROSS at around 10-1, he ran a blinder here last year finishing second and runs off a pound lower mark this year.

The cheekpieces perked him up last time and they are back on today.

I also like three outsiders all at 40-1, they are THE YOUNG MASTER/FLYING ANGEL/THE KING’S WRIT.

The King’s Writ is a lovely jumper and prominent racer (could miss most of the trouble behind).

The Young Master has a brilliant festival record of -363 two of those runs in the last two renewals of this race.

Finally, Flying Angel he has good festival form, is still well handicapped as when winning at Ascot earlier in the year proved.

Be lucky and as usual gamble responsibly!
