Chris Gordon

Long before embarking on his incredibly successful career as a racehorse trainer, Chris was a Point to Point jockey with a fearless reputation, winning countless races up and down the country. Chris and his wife Jenny were born for a challenge and riding winners turned to training winners initially as a private trainer for Point to Point enthusiast Mike Tindall. This was a partnership that was hugely successful, but the Gordons yearned to have their own yard, and in 2007 they took the plunge!

After viewing over a dozen yards, Morestead Farm Stables became available just outside Winchester after Brendan Powell had vacated the premises. With the full support of Mike Tindall acting as guarantor, the Gordons purchased the yard. On moving in, they only had five horses in their care and could not have predicted that a recession would be just around the corner. Chris vividly recalls this time: “It was very tough, but in one sense, you have nothing to lose, it makes life easier. There wasn’t an option.” However, Chris and Jenny were determined to make it work and on November 9, 2007, with only their second runner, they made an instant impact when Quarrymount won at 8/1.

It wasn’t long before they were again grabbing the headlines when King Edmund won at 80/1 in a bumper first time up at Ludlow. Heads were turning; eyebrows were raised – the Gordons had arrived! The partnership used their skill, knowledge, and expertise, and through sheer graft and a policy of being as competitive as they could be with their training fees, the number of horses began to rise. This ethos has held the Gordons partnership in good stead over the years, resulting in better quality horses and more trips to the Winners Enclosure for their lucky owners.

Chris and Jenny have a remarkable strike rate, not only for winners, but for placed horses too. On writing this, horses that are placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd represent nearly 40% of runners over the last five seasons – incredible! Betgoodwin’s very own Aucunrisque has already visited the Winners Enclosure six times to date, which included winning the prestigious Grade 2 Dovecote Hurdle at Kempton Park on February 26, 2022. Chris Gordon has come a long way from racing in the Point to Point fields for a “packet of crisps and a pickled egg”!

We are incredibly excited to continue on our very own journey with Chris and Jenny and are delighted to sponsor Morestead Farm Stables and have them as our brand ambassadors!
